Thefreemusic.net Introduction To...Th.e.n.dTh.e.n.d is a young and talented artist from Berlin. He recently published his new "Metaphor EP" on Mixgalaxy Records.
Why did you choose a Creative-Commons license to publish your music?
Music is my biggest hobby, and i don't need revenue from the music to pay my livelihood depends. It's important for me to reach as many as possible people with my music. Creative-Commons fits perfect to this. I like the idea of free sharing and communication with the community and Inspiration with the art. Another point is that i can build a contrast to the commercial music business, which is only interested in Consumption and profit maximization.
What do you think is the special about your music?
I always try to mix melodic themes with rhythmic variations and create an expressive but still beat-heavy music. It should also contain classical instruments as piano or guitar, withou sounding old-fashioned. I hope i managed the balancing act between melody and beat on my second EP.
You call yourself "Th.e.n.d.". What is the thing you end?
It's an ambiguos name. N.D. are the initials of my birth name. "The end" is also a hommage to my favorite song of the Doors - it was always an example of creativity and perfectionism to me. So my project shouldn't be an end, but a beginning and the aim of my work.
Do you think that more artists will publish their music under CC-licenses in future? Or do you think this trend only applies to non-mainstream genres like ambient or trip-hop?
I think that mostly young bands and projects will release more and more CC-Music, even in more popular genres like pop or rock. The distribution of free music in the internet can be a springboard for young artists into professionalism and popularity. And we shouldn't forget the political dimension of the CC-movement as movement against the dominant comercial pop-industry.
Who are your music heroes?
Clearly Claude Debussy, The Beatles The Doors but also modern electronic groups like Boards of Canada or Amon Tobin.
